Professional Qualifications
Rob holds a Diploma of Art in Film &
Television from the Swinburne College of Technology (now the VCA School of Film
& TV). He's also completed several specialised film and TV short courses and
workshops, as well as a four month course in Medical Terminology at the Royal
Children's Hospital. He is a current member of the Australian Institute of
Medical & Biological Illustration (AIMBI) and a past member of many
professional film industry associations and craft guilds.
Awards
Two of Rob's documentaries have won awards for
creative excellence. He has presented papers at national photographic and
nursing conferences, winning Best Paper Award at the National AIMBI conference
in 1992. Rob received the Royal Children's Hospital "Pied Piper's"
Scholarship in 1992 which gave him the opportunity to tour US and Canadian
children's hospitals. He has twice been a preselection judge on the panel for
the non-feature section of the annual Australian Film Institute Awards.
Career
Rob's working life began as a TV and feature
film sound editor for the South Australian Film Corporation and then Crawford
productions. He moved on to write and direct several educational programs on
topics as diverse as nursing, tractor safety, shipwrecks, customer service and
the Heidelberg Painting School, some under contract to the Documentary Division
of Film Victoria (now CineMedia). Rob spent two years as a video producer with
the Health Department of Victoria, during which time he co-produced a seven
episode youth health awareness program, "Here's to your Health", which
aired on Channel 7.
He has been senior video producer with the
Educational Resource Centre of the Royal Children's Hospital since 1990, where
his work has encompassed educational programs for medical and allied health
staff both within the Women's & Children's Health Care Network and other
health related organisations. Rob also manages the RCH's in-house TV channel,
for which he's produced the weekly patient informational entertainment show
"Going Nuts with Macadamia" since 1991.
